Sky Dancer

Joe lives on the moorlands with his mother and brother and comes from a long line of gamekeepers.  He loves the wilderness and the animals that he lives alongside.  But the moors are also the scene of conflict and controversy as the local community becomes divided over their use for grouse shooting. Joe and his friends Ella and Minty find themselves at the centre of the conflict when they find an orphaned hen harrier chick.

Gill Lewis has an unrivalled reputation for her stories about humanity’s interaction with nature and the environment and ‘Sky Dancer’ is another in a proud line of her books.  They make you think about the issues they raise without those issues getting in the way of enthralling, pacy stories featuring real and engaging characters.

A beautifully written drama of friendship and hope, set against the issue of conflict and controversy around the protection and exploitation of the environment.  Perfect reading for confident readers, aged 9-12.
