A Beginner’s Guide to Ruling the Galaxy

£7.99

In The Beginner’s Guide to Ruling the Galaxy, Gavin has a new neighbour and she’s seriously annoying. Niki follows him everywhere, bosses him about and continually runs him down.  Furthermore, she doesn’t seem bothered that her parents will obliterate Earth with their galactic warships if she doesn’t stop running away from them.

Reluctantly, Gavin has to collaborate with Niki to sort out the alien dictators in order to save the planet.  Maybe they will even become friends along the way?  There are laughs aplenty in David Solomons’ really funny anarchic sci-fi comedy.

A Beginner’s Guide to Ruling the Galaxy

David Solomons

(Nosy Crow)

A Beginner’s Guide to Ruling the Galaxy is a comic sci-fi fantasy treat.  When Gavin first met Niki, he had an inkling that there was something odd about her.  She doesn’t seem to like him much, yet she follows him everywhere and constantly reminds him  how ‘cosmically insignificant’ he is.
Gavin isn’t prepared at all when Niki tells him she’s a galactic princess on the run.  What’s more, the Earth is about to be destroyed by her warring parents. It all seems highly unlikely.  However, Gavin encounters a talking cat with a spaceship in the park.  This leads him to wonder if the impossible could be true after all. Perhaps his very insignificance could be the most powerful weapon he has.
The action in this surreal laugh-out-loud story moves from an ordinary town to the chaos and exhilaration of battles in outer space.  Yet it all gets even stranger for Gavin as it nearly gets eaten by a drooling alien!  Like all the best stories, behind the humour and exotic characters and twisting plot is an uplifting tale about finding your place in the world.
