Readers learn of his care and training and the potential in Jasmine’s porcine treasure.

A Piglet Called Truffle is the initial title of  the Jasmine Green series. It  is interesting, informative and really satisfying reading. It is rare to find a series that is so respectful of readers with less reading mileage under their belts.

A Piglet Called Truffle

Helen Peters, illustrated by Ellie Snowdon

(Nosy Crow)

Welcome to A Piglet Called Truffle. It seems that Farmer Carter insists the old sow has eleven piglets in her litter. However, Jasmine finds a twelfth, emaciated and left for dead. The story of Truffles’ revival is gripping, informative and full of trial and fun. What’s more, it seems that Jasmine’s determination is an indication of what is to come. After all, might this girl set out her stall that she wants to be an animal carer? Then again, might it be that despite her age, she demonstrates reliability and alertness? What will happen in Truffle’s future? Is it likely that he’s destined to live on Jasmine’s family farm, isn’t he? Certainly, if Jasmine and best friend, Tom have anything to do with it. However, it will require every inch of energy and purpose for this little piglet is severely weakened. Then again, there’s Manu and Ben to work around, let alone Dad and Mum! Helen Peters opens her spectacular Jasmine Green series with this superb title. Thereafter, we grow to love each new addition to Jasmine’s menagerie and care taking experience, including A Seal Pup Called Pearl!
