Armistice Runner


Lily is apprehensive about her family’s visit to her grandparents.  She hasn’t done enough training for her forthcoming fell race and she can’t face the probability of her arch-rival Abbie overtaking her in the final strait again. Worse of all her gran is losing the battle with Alzheimer’s….

In a moment of rare lucidity, her gran tells her about her own grandfather, Ernest.  He too was a talented fell runner and Lily is given Ernest’s running diaries to read.  What they reveal tells Ernest’s astonishing story of bravery amidst the carnage of the First World War and his unique role in telling the troops about the signing of the armistice.
