Ghost and Toast

£8.99

Ghost and Toast is a totally bonkers and hilariously funny graphic novel adventure, pairing Ghost (who is a ghost) and Toast (who is a talking slice of toasted bread).  Ghost can’t remember anything before he was a ghost and Toast is little help on this front.  His ‘remembered’ adventures with Ghost seem highly unlikely, at least to Ghost.

It doesn’t help that they seem to live in a haunted mansion owned by the mysterious Mr Borloff.  It also doesn’t help that there is an evil genius on the loose, and it’s a croissant, leading a vengeful horde of other baked goods.  Ghost and Toast lurch from one surreal encounter to another and their journey seems to descend rapidly into chaos and diversion.

Phil Corbett brings his signature humour and brilliant illustration style to this excellent (and utterly mad) new series.

Ghost and Toast

Phil Corbett

(Piccadilly)

Ghost has arrived at a haunted mansion and isn’t sure what to expect.  Least of all does he expect to find a talking slice of bread.  So, Ghost meets Toast.  One’s dead, the other is bread.  In addition to being dead, Ghost cannot remember a life before becoming a ghost.  His initial questions of Toast do not help him at all.  The unlikely double act have little option than to solve the mystery (but what mystery?).  It soon becomes clear that there are going to be plenty of distractions and meanderings along the way.  These two couldn’t solve their way out of a paper bag.
Furthermore, there are plenty of obstacles in their path, to wherever they are going.  There’s a croissant evil mastermind and a hordes of pastries and baked goods.  There’s also a giant kitten and a gingerbread house.  Whenever they seem to be making progress, the machinating evil genius Croissant pops up again.  Moreover, their ‘landlord’ Mr Borloff keeps reappearing, seemingly benign, but what’s really going on with him?
Ghost and Toast is hilariously bonkers and surreal, undermining all the tropes and cliches of a graphic novel as it hurtles madly to a crazy conclusion.
