Izzy Gizmo and the Invention Convention

Izzy Gizmo is disrupted from creating her So-Sew to mend Grandpa’s jacket by a ring at the doorbell. There’s an invitation from Mick Marvel for Izzy to take part in the annual Invention Convention at Technoff Island. She learns that she is one of six selected candidates to participate in a challenge:- ‘If you come first with the thing that you build/ we’ll give you a badge to the Genius Guild’. What on earth will Izzy create’?

Immediately, Abi von Lavish plans a sparkly machine. She’s quicker to the Cog Store and then the Wire Shed. What can Izzy do? Could she be alert enough to realise that inspiration for a project is right alongside her? Fixer and Grandpa encourage Izzy all the way!

The positive rhyming text and bright, empathetic pictures are warm and uplifting! We cheer on Izzy’s efforts and attitude as we read! ‘Izzy Gizmo and the Invention Convention’ is a cheerful, clever picture book, certain to be loved by its many readers.

Izzy Gizmo and the Invention Convention

Pip Jones and Sara Ogilvie

(Simon & Schuster)

‘Izzy Gizmo and the Invention Convention’ focuses upon an opportunity for our problem- busting heroine to shine! Mick Marvel’s invitation arrives as she and Fixer are busy creating a So-Sew to fix Grandpa’s jacket. Thereafter the house is in a flap! The  annual convention at Technoff Isle is a huge journey for our trio! Furthermore what might be required of Izzy? Building a machine to impress The Professor? What design might draw Izzy’s attention? Could it be something dazzling and sparkling such as Abi von Lavish is considering? Or might Izzy have her own idea- maybe something that inspires her from her experience of the challenge?
We love the rhyming text and the upbeat message. Sara Ogilvie’s pictures are so expressive, colour empathetic and positive. Izzy may fall at hurdles but Grandpa and Fixer encourage her forward! Like us, they recognise her creativity and strategic skills. We feel excited as we do by titles such as Children Who Changed the World or Rosie Revere, Engineer. You will never guess at the design arrived at by ‘Izzy Gizmo and the Invention Convention’!
