Journey to the River Sea

£7.99

‘Journey to the River Sea‘ is an essential title for every reader; on my ‘must read’ list, and a regular gift choice. This is Eva Ibbotson’s masterpiece amongst a proud collection of children’s stories. It lingers, informs, moves and matters almost magically. It is rather like the wonder of the new found Brazilian landscape that infiltrates our hardy protagonist, orphaned Maia. She has left her secure Edwardian boarding school to join long-lost pioneering cousins living in Manaus. Along the way, Maia encounters, a travelling theatre, the kindness of strangers, a jaw-dropping wilderness, drama – and lies. I cannot recommend ‘Journey to the River Sea‘ more highly. It is outstanding.

Journey to the River Sea

Eva Ibbotson

(Pan Macmillan)

Journey to the River Sea‘ is a wonderful book. Eva Ibbotson creates the infinite splendour of Brazil so magically, we can see and smell it, as her central character Maia, does. This classic story deserves its place as a reading rite of passage for so many children.
