Description

Let’s Play Sports

Kate Baker, illustrated by Hannah Riordan

(Lonely Planet Kids)

Let’s Play Sports is a great introduction and a fun journey into sports from around the world.  Using lift-the-flaps, children can explore both famous and lesser-known games and sports from across the continents.  Along the way, we can also learn about how children around the world play.
The book takes in ice hockey in Canada, baseball in the USA to kabbadi in India and beach volley ball in Brazil.  There are interactive surprises and evocative illustrations on every page. There are eight different sporting scenarios on offer, each set in a different country, with flaps that lift to reveal hidden team uniforms, as well as behind-the-scenes imagery of stadiums and more. Also featured are more unusual UK games, such as crazy golf and in Australia (water sports such as surfing and paddleboarding).  Furthermore, we can find in New Zealand touch-rugby and a haka performance!
This really is an excellent little board book for developing readers. Especially for those who just love sports!  Bookwagon love Lonely Planet Kids books, of which we stock many on a range of subjects. We also have a growing collection of sports-related books, such as Sportodpedia.
