Meet the Invisibles

£10.99

In painstaking, fascinating detail, Mike Barfield and Jess Bradley detail how the development of the lens opened up a whole new world for humanity.

Suddenly we were able to Meet the Invisibles. We could compare and learn about small living species, organisms and matter. What’s more we could work out how it worked, with us and around us. We could compare and make educated guesses at the elements of life.

We move from examining insects and bugs, to considering fungi, decomposition and pollination. How do things grow? Then what about light and energy? Forces and magnets?

The organisation, from its welcoming introduction to the glossary, the divisions of subjects, to its chronology makes Meet the Invisibles so accessible. Then again, the graphics and clear-sighted information are wonderful.

Bookwagon recommends Meet the Invisibles highly to readers at home and school.

Meet the Invisibles

From Gravity and Gas to Bacteria and Bugs

Mike Barfield & Jess Bradley

(Michael O’Mara Books)

Bookwagon loves Eye to Eye: How Animals See the World. The introduction of Meet the Invisibles, has Mike Barfield explain how humans see and what we can see. Thereafter we learn how we began to investigate the unseen world and the devices we use, from spectacles to microscopes.
What a world we discovered! What continues to be revealed today! From insects and mini beasts, to bacteria, viruses and fungi. We’ve learned how things decompose and how they grow. What’s more, we’ve explored deep into cell technology.
As with his wonderful award winning A Day in the Life  series, the writer is exhausting in his planning, organisation and scale of information. Then again, Jess Bradley’s presentation makes everything clear and fascinating, so accessible! When we move into examining states of matter and energy, magnets and light, areas that traditionally have this reader stricken by fifth form fear, I wanted to read on and learn more! What a fantastic book, ideal for recreational reading, or learning.
Bookwagon is so happy to welcome aboard Meet the Invisibles.
