‘Mo, Lottie and the Junkers’ is the story of an exceptional science research project. Mo and Lottie, are part of a new family, brought together when their parents move in together in the house across the road where Mo once lived. Lorelai moves into Mo’s old home. There’s something odd about Lorelai. It’s not just her hair (although Lottie is suspicious of this), but that there’s been no sign of a moving truck and her curtains are drawn, always. She’s a bit too familiar, also.
Suddenly, Mo has a friend at school. While he’s delighted in Jax, Lottie is watchful. Jax is keenly interested in the school lost property based science project Mo and Lottie have devised. Yet he offers nothing about himself, his family or his address.
When a threatening ice cream vendor and a hapless lollipop man arrive in this setting, the confusion grows. Then there’s the disappearance of a peculiar bracelet that Mo finds beneath his bedroom floorboards. Mo is a collector. He believes everything can be reunited to its source. So, what’s the source of this bracelet? Why does it disappear?
‘Mo, Lottie and the Junkers’ held me spellbound. I read it in one go. Mo and Lottie are fully realised characters. I love their cautious regard for each other. Lottie respects Mo’s careful intelligence, but despairs of his hair. Mo lets both his new stepsisters into his life, cautiously, increasing his daring and trust.
Jennifer Killick has created an endearing, funny, clever and gripping story. I look forward to sharing, recommending and selling ‘Mo, Lottie and the Junkers’ to so many readers.
