Shackleton’s Journey
£14.99
I bought this for Mr Bookwagon’s birthday a little while ago. He admires the leadership shown by Ernest Shackleton during his unbelievable journey to safety from his Antarctic ice-packed ship ‘Endurance’ in 1915. I knew nothing of young non-fiction picture book maker William Grill at the time. Now, like many in the children’s book world, I await every brush stroke toward the publication of a new book. William Grill writes for a previously desert like market, for those readers, longing for real adventure stories, true experiences.
Painstakingly and fascinatingly, William Grill charts the story of Ernest Shackleton’s ill-fated Endurance expedition to Antarctica. Catastrophe was afforded by pack ice and a world at war, yet the drama, teamwork, leadership, hardship denied the expected outcome.
‘Shackleton’s Journey‘ is an outstandingly meaningful and informative book, beautifully plotted, detailed and presented, a book to last.
