Snow

£7.99

We are complicit in the young boy’s desperation to get outdoors and explore the snowy landscape awaiting him. He agonises as he longs to create the first footprint, to feel the talcum powder crunch beneath his feet, to realise the magical possibilities ahead. All the while, Grandad seems oblivious, except to the realities, ‘Don’t forget your scarf! Don’t forget your hat!’ We call, with the boy, ‘DON’T FORGET THE SNOW!’

Will they ever get outdoors? Will they ever explore the magical textures, tastes and smells of the snow?

Snow

Sam Usher

(Templar Publishing)

‘I woke up this morning, it was snowing!’ Oh the wonder, the possibilities…. we share the main character’s desperation to get out and adventure, explore and imagine in the wintry landscape. Snow offers a sense of anything… Therefore, what does the boy see ahead? Furthermore, what preparations are needed for an adventure? It seems scarves are necessary at least. However we’re impatient, like the boy, to get outside to feel that first crunch beneath foot. What’s more, it seems that everyone has gone to the park. However, it seems that Grandad is unaware for he’s dragging his feet in leaving. What’s more he’s impervious when he learns that the snow’s draw has extended beyond dogs to zoo animals. It seems there are zoo animals at the park? Could it be that when the pair arrive, the boy’s absurd statements might be found to be true?
Sam Usher‘s world is glorious. It’s created to linger over and dream, wonder and suggest. Then again, this is a picture book to read together, observe, share and take time over alone. What’s more, it’s part of an outstanding addition alongside Storm and Sun. Bookwagon loves and recommends this title and others of Sam Usher’s picture books highly; they are essential to every bookshelf.
