The Potion of Doom

£7.99

Henrik Jekyll has been refused nothing. His parents might loathe each other, but they are determined to impress upon their single son that they are the better, more obliging, generous parent. To that end, they have ruined Henrik Jekyll.

Therefore, when Gabby arrives at their doorstep with stories of an unknown mansion in a declining town, that Henrik wants to know more about, his parents are forced to agree. Jekyll Mansions is not only deserted and peculiar but filled with creepy secrets. For example, what is The Potion of Doom, about which Henrik is warned never to investigate? Henrik is not told what to do! He tells others what to do. What’s more, he’s never had any sort of relationship, certainly not a friendship, with anyone. That means, that Gabby’s entreaties for help, as she worries about her ailing father, and the threat of Lady Deadlock to Gothville, fall on Henrik’s deaf ears. It seems all he’s concerned about is the forbidden potion…

It’s not long after he’s formed it, that Henrik realises why there is such fear at the concoction. It’s not the taste or sensation, but what or who that results. Thereafter, Henrik is in a battle with himself, as Eddie Hyde, an even more despicable creation.

Jack Meggitt-Phillips has increased the horror and extended the awe (as in awful) in Jekyll Vs Hyde: Potion of Doom. As with his best selling, beloved The Beast and the Bethany, this is a gripping read filled with truly gross characters!

Jekyll Vs Hyde The Potion of Doom

Jack Meggitt- Phillips, illustrated by Holly Swain

(Farshore)

It’s not altogether Henrik Jekyll’s fault that he’s grown into an odious and self- absorbed boy. After all, his parents loathing of each other is fuelled by competing over exceeding Henrik’s every need. It seems they can refuse him nothing, not even if it’s in his best interest. This includes staying well away from Gothville’s Jekyll Mansions. Then again, NOT mixing The Potion of Doom about which everyone- including readers- are convinced is a very, very, very bad idea.
However, Henrik Jekyll has never been told what to do. Then again, he’s never had a friend, especially one like Gabby, not only concerned about her ailing father’s health, but the future of her village, Gothville. It seems as though this is all in the hands of Henrik Jekyll, but not if he disobeys every recommendation and pieces together the ingredients of this deadly mixture. What could possibly happen? Surely not a rebirth of a totally vile monster, an…. Eddie Hyde?
Jack Meggitt-Phillips held us gripped through The Beast and the Bethany series, struggling between revulsion and wild bursts of hilarity. Here, the horror is turned up a little more as we witness the battle of Jekyll Vs Hyde: The Potion of Doom.
