There is NO Big Bad Wolf in this Story

£6.99

The Wolf has had enough. How can he be expected to be in two stories at the same time? The Three Little Pigs are angry that he can’t huff and puff fast enough, when he’s then expected to rush across the pages into another story. What’s more that story, Little Red Riding Hood, calls for him to trek to the woods to Grandmother’s house! She’s cross because he’s late- again. Yet Wolf is exhausted. That’s it! ‘From now on, there will be NO Big Bad Wolf in any of your stories!’ Wolf declares.

At first the Three Little Pigs, Grandmother and Little Red Riding Hood think they can manage perfectly well without him. Yet it’s harder than it looks. Could Dragon help?

Cleverly, imaginatively, Lou Carter and Deborah Allwright, revisit and connect two traditional stories and reinvent them. What would it be like without the villain? How does he cope with his double role? After their There Is No Dragon In This Story, There is NO Big Bad Wolf in this Story is a welcome successor. There is wry animation, satisfying characterisation, hilarious journeys rushed across the pages and then such fulfilling storytelling. Bookwagon loves and recommends this picture book to our readers!

Description

There is NO Big Bad Wolf in this Story

Lou Carter and Deborah Allwight

(Bloomsbury)

There is NO Big Bad Wolf in this Story. It seems that he’s just had enough! After all, he’s expected to trick Little Red Riding Hood, and thereafter, chase ‘little piggies’, blow ‘down their houses’ and fall ‘down their chimneys’! It seems that he’s expected to ‘get to Grandma’s house before Little Red Riding Hood arrives’ yet have all his ‘huffing and puffing‘ finished at the same time! He is ‘seriously frazzled’. Thereafter he decides ‘it’s completely impossible’ and he ‘won’t put up with it anymore’.
Yet, how can these stories succeed without a major character like Wolf? They might try to get along with it, but it’s harder than it looks. What’s more, alternative characters, like Dragons, could be ‘a disaster’!
Fractured fairytales are some of the most enjoyable stories to share and thereafter imagine. Yet few writers extend this genre in quite the same way as Lou Carter and Deborah Allwright. It seems as though the characters are really living, viable creations. We saw this in their There Is No Dragon In This Story, beloved by Bookwagon readers. Therefore, we are delighted to see similar journeying, bold pictures, animation and imaginative contemplations. It means that There is No Big Bad Wolf in this Story is a truly satisfying picture book, ideal for sharing at bedtime and thereafter lingering over during repeated readings. Can the Three Little Pigs, Red Riding Hood and her Grandmother, inspire a change of heart for Wolf? Might they mend their ways?
