You Go First

£5.99

Charlotte and Ben are friends although they live thousands of miles apart. They started talking after playing each other in numerous games of Scrabble on-line.  Their lives seem vastly different – Charlotte wants to be a geologist and keeps a pet rock.  Ben is obsessed with Harry Potter and recycling.  But both are highly gifted and face family turmoil. And they both sit alone at lunch.

During the course of a week, their lives intersect unexpectedly as they struggle to navigate the challenges of middle school. This book has engaging, real characters and is packed full of poignancy and humour.  It reminds us that regardless of how hard it might be to keep our heads above troubled water, we never struggle alone.

(Greenwillow)

Charlotte and Ben live thousands of miles apart but have become friends after playing each other at Scrabble on-line.  Their lives seem vastly different, but they also share much in common.  They are both highly gifted…and they both are experiencing family turmoil. They also sit alone at lunch.
Their long-distance friendship offers them support as they struggle to navigate the murky waters of middle school. This is another excellent story from Newbery Medal winning novelist Erin Entrada Kelly, author of ‘Hello Universe’.  The novel reminds us that we are rarely alone when we struggle with problems life throws at us.
