Mermaid Atalanta Scrimshaw lives in the charming seaside town of Sleepy Cove. Every day she records her thoughts and the events of the day A Mermaid’s Diary. Atalanta loves the town, she spends her times collecting messages in bottles and with her ragtag collection of friends. The town is full of quirky characters, some of them not so nice. In fact, some of them are determined to enable the end of the town as it currently exists. When she learns of possible plans to sell the town to property developers intent of turning the place into a seaside golf resort and park, she ‘swims’ into action.
How dare these people seek to destroy her perfect life and that of her friends? An army of seahorses, whales, mermaids and other allies swing into action to avert disaster.
As you would expect from master storyteller and illustrator Chris Riddell, the combination of superb illustrations and sharp, witty story telling is excellent.
