Bookwagon loves the shifts in time within this story. We love the fact we can read it in so many ways. Furthermore, will the travellers get there? As ever, the wonderful, award-winning Dan Santat looks at the usual in a most divergent and deviating way that delights!

Are We There Yet?’The journey to Grandma’s birthday party feels like an eternity, although the family has only been travelling for an hour. Staring out of ‘the window at a thousand miles of road can get boring pretty quickly‘. However what is time? Then again, what happens when you’re really not taking any notice? Might it be that suddenly, the reader becomes part of your journey? Thereafter, might  the view change entirely? It seems that the travellers’ parents are aware, as we are! In fact, we have to tip our book around. So, where might we go? Could it be to the Wild West? It seems that the world (and the page) has turned upside-down! Is this time travel or possibly, boredom? Then again, is our moaning backseat passenger aware of any of this. What about when we arrive in the land of dinosaurs?
From cowboys and steam trains, pirates to to Roman amphitheatres? Suddenly the journey is precarious rather than predictable!
Dan Santat takes an over-worn back seat cry and familiar travel feeling and creates a picture book that is startling, wide-eyed and breath-taking. Like The Aquanaut, for example, we are challenged and captivated!  Bookwagon recommends Are We There Yet? to all families and imaginative readers!
